Ambivalence

On the one hand, I am really looking forward to being home.

On the other hand I am really not looking forward to the process of getting home.

My flight leaves Melbourne in two hours, then it’s 7 hours to Singapore, a 2 hour wait, then 14 and a half hours to London, then a 6 hour wait, then 7 hours back to Halifax. So that’s, what, around 38.5 hours till I touch down in Nova Scotia if all goes well?

At this point I’ve been awake today for around 8.5 hours, so that’ll be 47 hours awake if I don’t sleep on this trip, which seems to be pretty much what happens. Tack on another hour and a bit to clear customs, get my luggage, get out of the airport, etc, and I am going to be a right mess by the time I get home.

On the other hand, at least I have access to the business class lounges, so I can spend this time sucking up the free wireless and having some really good stilton. That will be critical in London, I think.
