Possibly I Am Just Sappy
Very rarely does one of those “ten photos, each with a paragraph of text” photo features in one of the major papers make me tear up–I want to say never, but my memory is not the wondrous thing it once was1 so that might be a bit of a reach. It’s moot anyway, since this one sure does.
Possibly you have to be a parent. Or possibly I am just sappy.

That makes much more sense now. When I saw the headline “Kids with cancer watch ironworkers spraypaint their names on beams” on Reddit, I parsed it as meaning the construction workers were spray painting their own names onto the beams of the building to live on forever, for the cancer kids to see.
Which seemed really fucking mean.
