The good thing that’s happening this weekend…

After the old men are done their rocking, Sunday will bring us Word On The Street.

And this year Halifax’s Word On The Street has a large comics component in addition to the usual celebration of bookery. All the locals and a whole pile of Toronto types are going to be here for the show¹. The list is impressive:

Alphona, Adrian–He did the art on Marvel’s Runaways series.
Bone, J.–He’s done lots of stuff. Most interesting to me was probably Alison Dare
Chantler, Scott–I think I have his complete works here. I’m really enjoying Northwest Passage.
Cho, Michael–I admit to ignorance, but like the idea of a children’s book entitled “Media Madness“
Cooke, Darwyn–All I’ve read is New Frontier, but I quite liked that. I’ll probably be buying the swank edition when it comes out.
Kim, Eric–I am quite enjoying Love As A Foreign Language.
Kraatz, Rebecca–I’ve been reading House Of Sugar online.
Larson, Hope–She’s been mentioned here before
Manale, Steve–I claim ignorance
McLachlan, Brian–I’ve got his No Dead Time book here, and it was fun
McNiven, Steve–I haven’t really seen any of his stuff since he was doing Meridian and the Holmes analogue at Crossgen, but he’s surely the most famous guy coming in the eyes of most comic fans, since he’s currently doing the art² for Marvel’s big Civil War crossover thingy.
North, Ryan–Again, I plead ignorance, but apparently there are strips online
Oakley, Mark–Probably the guy I’m most excited to meet; I’m a big fan of Thieves & Kings
O’Malley, Bryan Lee–local indie comics genius, mentioned here before
Seth–I met him last time he was out here, and got my copies of It’s A Good Life, If You Don’t Weaken, and Bannock, Beans and Black Tea signed. This time I want to get something sketched into my copy of Wimbledon Green.

I’ll definitely be checking it out. I’ve got piles of books to get signed.

And there’s lots more than just the comics stuff going on–I have at least two custom bookbinders to talk to. See, I’ve got this crazy plan…

Weirdly absent is Mike Holmes, who has a book currently solicited, and who I expected to see there(back)
