Congratulations Iron Doug!

I have just found out that my friend Iron Doug Hern was promoted to a Vice President position at Sybase last month.

Through my various spies and sources I was able to read the information from the internal release about it. Here’s a little bit:

Doug joined Sybase in April 1994 and previously held the position of Sr. Director of Technical Services for iAnywhere. Prior to that, Doug was Director of Support for Sybase’s Mobile and Embedded Computing Division and led the Sybase Waterloo Call Center for Sybase customer service and support. In this new position, Doug will continue to be responsible for professional services, technical support, education, and application development for iAnywhere.

Doug has played an integral role in the formation and growth of the iAnywhere Technical Services group. He has developed a strong team which consistently delivers results and receives positive feedback from our customers and partners.

So, a couple of thoughts:

1) 1994? I remember Doug being hired. I should not have work memories that are 12 years old. Damn, I am getting old.

2) I bet they promoted him after he finished the Lake Placid Iron Man last year–they’re probably all scared that he was turned to steel, in the great magnetic field.

3) He should totally start giving out laps and stuff, to his employees. Build a better service organization through fitness, and at the same time prepare and army to TAKE OVER THE WORLD! (Or at least scare RIM.)

I’d love to say ‘decrepit‘ or something, but that whole Iron Man thing kind of works against that sort of joke.

    Heavy boots of lead
fills his victims full of dread
Running as fast as they can
    Iron Doug lives again!
