Context

Have I spoken of the Lapham’s Quarterly blog?

It’s a fine, fine thing–they take current topical news stories, and link them to something contextual from history to provide a different view, or highlight a particular nuance, etc.

A recent piece, contrasts some US election pandering with… well, that would be telling, but anyway you should check it out. The editors there are masters at juxtaposition as comment. That post isn’t actually my favourite post thus far at their blog–that would undoubtedly be the one about engineers–but it’s a fine one.

I also recommend the magazine–indeed, I subscribe to it, a rare thing in this electronic world. It makes absolutely excellent bathroom reading.

And do look at the archives of the radio show as well. Lots of good listening there.
