Dion, huh? Interesting.

Look, I didn’t want Ignatieff. He pissed me off.

I was interested in seeing how Bob Rae would have played out. I think that would have been fun to watch either way–if he transcended his baggage in Ontario, or if it was a glorious disaster. (Certainly, as an NDP, it would have been interesting to see a former NDP Premier become a federal Liberal leader.)

But this result kind of surprises me.

I like how Mercer wraps it up, though:

At the end of the day though, watching Dion on stage, I couldn’t help but be amazed at his physical presence. The Liberals went into this convention with a host of choices. They could have gone with a battle-tested politician, a former athlete, a world famous academic or a food bank founder from the West; at the end of the day they choose the nerd.

That’s pretty Canadian

Of course, all I really want from a Liberal leader is someone who can get Harper out of office. I would have said Dion’s not that guy, but then I would have said he didn’t have a serious shot at the leadership either, so maybe I’ll give him some benefit of the doubt.
