“Extraordinary Rendition”

AN executive jet is being used by the American intelligence agencies to fly terrorist suspects to countries that routinely use torture in their prisons.

Who says so? That crazy, unreliable, tinfoil hat conspiracy rag, The Sunday Times

Bob Baer, a former CIA operative in the Middle East, said: “If you want a serious interrogation you send a prisoner to Jordan. If you want them to be tortured you send them to Syria. If you want someone to disappear . . . you send them to Egypt.”

I’m not sure what sickens me more: the fact that people are being tortured (without even a trial in most cases–not that even a trial would justify torture, but without one it means the people being tortured will quite often be completely innocent), or the ridiculous hypocrisy displayed in the notion that while the US is somehow above torture, it’s morally OK to hire out the job to a third party.
