I think the madness is over…

…or at least I am past the peak of it.

The last three weeks of insanely intense work, with days getting longer as the week progressed–in the last 10 days I have been working almost all of my waking hours, including weekends, and I have seen the sunrise from my desk on three different occasions–were frankly brutal. I think I’ve been averaging slightly less than four hours a night for the last three weeks–thank God for caffeine. But, I think I just finished the last major piece of the insane stuff, and it should be a slow downhill glide back to my regular level of intensity.

I do get the satisfaction (and glory) of having pulled off another miracle. (It’s no wonder my employers love, and generously compensate, me.) On the other hand, now that I’m a parent giving up my “off work” waking hours is a much more serious sacrifice, and working late can’t go hand-in-hand with sleeping in, since I still have to be up at the unholy hour my daughter gets up. (At least once this week I was still working when she was getting up.)

Which means that while I may need a day or two (or more, now that I’m an old man) to recover, I should start being me again Real Soon Now(tm).
