Compare and contrast

High culture:

Pogany Illo. Why, all the Saints and Sages who discuss’d
Of the Two Worlds so wisely–they are thrust
Like foolish Prophets forth; their Words to Scorn
Are scatter’d, and their Mouths are stopt with Dust.

Myself when young did eagerly frequent
Doctor and Saint, and heard great argument
About it and about: but evermore
Came out by the same door where in I went.

With them the seed of Wisdom did I sow,
And with mine own hand wrought to make it grow;
And this was all the Harvest that I reap’d–
“I came like Water, and like Wind I go.”

versus pop culture:

Like I Told Ya... What I Said...It’s the same story the crow told me; it’s the only one he knows.
Like the morning sun you come and like the wind you go.
Ain’t no time to hate, barely time to wait,
Wo-oah, what I want to know, where does the time go?

A recent argument about whether or not some of my friends had let some of the really annoying fans of the Dead colour their impressions of the actual works of the band has had me listening to them a lot this week. And I’ve just been reading something that put old Omar into my head.
