A miscellany for a Friday

There’s absolutely no theme here, just a bunch of stuff that caught my interest.

  • Why did I not know there was a new Grimjack comic being serialized to the web at ComicMix.com? There’s like 60 pages there already. I hope this is web-to-trade serialization. And look, there’s also a Jon Sable, and what’s this Bar Sinister?
  • The good folks over at VCTB have turned me on to My Fellow Americans, which is essentially “two Brits try to pull a HST on the 2008 US elections”. Yes, I think this will be part of my election season reading.
  • Who would drink an Irish car bomb, really? That’s a waste of Guinness. It’s one thing to do a curdling penalty shot, and there’s nothing wrong with using that noxious concoction, Bailey’s, as part of it–witness the old engineering standby of the Cement Mixer–but don’t wreck a perfectly good stout while doing it.
  • Lakota FlagI wish the Lakota Nation nothing but luck. I don’t think they’re going to get it, though. It sure would create an interesting hole in the middle of America.
  • If this thing hadn’t been sold out, I swear I would have sent one to The Colonel for the holidays.
  • Since I’m not an American I can’t wear this t-shirt. But I would wear this one. Well, I would if I still wore t-shirts with stuff written on them. Maybe I need to stop pretending to be grown up and go back to that.
  • It’s a catalogue. It’s a Rube Goldberg machine. It’s art. Well, OK, it’s really just a very, very good advertisement. Just check it out. Especially Eric Miller.
  • I think I actually had the physics-themed-porno-movie conversation in this webcomic, or a close facsimile, with Greg, Sarah (not that one–the one I went to school with, duh), and Christina when I was in university. Without, of course, the Hawking bit–we didn’t know that he knew how to party back then.
  • Wow, after reading this insightful Is Your Child A Computer Hacker article, I’m going to have to watch out for the signs in Sarah. Especially signs of Lunix.
  • Yes, I am just the sort of nerd who would love to hear a law professor interview George R. R. Martin about law in the created societies of genre fiction.
  • Basically what she says was, you could have manipulated the 2004 election results with a Blackberry.” I’m shocked. Shocked, I tell you. </Renault>
  • Would I like an octopus chandelier? Yes, yes I would. Is there any chance my wife would let me have one anywhere except in my office/library? No, no there is not. (via jwz).
