Margo Lanagan’s Voice

Margo LanaganI was really expecting a more pronounced Australian accent. That’s what I get for working with guys in Victoria, I guess.

A while back genius Australian short story writer Margo Lanagan posted that she had done an interview with the BBC World Service‘s program “The Word“. The short interview is nominally about her brilliant short story collection Black Juice–a collection I found to be composed of only note-perfect stories; nothing less than an excellent work among them.

Well, the program with that interview is now up on the site as streaming Real audio, probably for a week.

I don’t know why Auntie Beeb sticks with Real Audio… it’s annoying for people who A) don’t want Real on their machines, or B) want to listen to the clips away from their computers–like in the car, or while jogging, or whatever. They should totally just provide DLs in MP3 format.

Once again, if only someone had converted the Lanagan bits from the stream to a simple downloadable MP3 file… that would make things so much easier. Sigh.
