{"id":966,"date":"2007-08-13T23:53:39","date_gmt":"2007-08-14T03:53:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.chrismclaren.com\/blog\/2007\/08\/13\/get-your-war-on-annoying-public-intellectuals\/"},"modified":"2007-08-13T23:53:39","modified_gmt":"2007-08-14T03:53:39","slug":"get-your-war-on-annoying-public-intellectuals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.chrismclaren.com\/blog\/2007\/08\/13\/get-your-war-on-annoying-public-intellectuals\/","title":{"rendered":"Get Your War On Annoying Public Intellectuals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>You know who <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/David_Rees_%28cartoonist%29\">David Rees<\/a> is.<\/p>\n<p>You might not recognize the name right away, but you will surely know about <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Get_Your_War_On\">Get Your War On<\/a>, which is Rees&#8217; brilliant strip of savage clipart acid political comedy.<\/p>\n<p>What you might not know is that Rees is also an excellent comic essayist. <\/p>\n<p>Want proof?<\/p>\n<p>My wife sent me a link today to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/david-rees\/cormac-ignatieffs-the-r_b_59363.html\">Rees&#8217; latest piece<\/a> at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/\">Huffington Post<\/a>, wherein he completely, viciously, and righteously, rips apart <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Michael_Ignatieff\">Michael Ignatieff<\/a>. I wanted to cheer at several points while reading this.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a bit, but seriously, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/david-rees\/cormac-ignatieffs-the-r_b_59363.html\">go read it all<\/a>: <\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><i>&#8220;Good judgment means understanding how to be responsible to those who pay the price of your decisions. . . . Sometimes sacrificing my judgment to (my consituents&#8217;) is the essence of my job. Provided, of course, that I don&#8217;t sacrifice my principles. . . .&#8221;<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Attention, Michael Ignatieff&#8217;s constituents: HE THINKS YOU&#8217;RE DUMB. Also, there&#8217;s something suspicious about that <i>&#8220;Provided, of course. . .&#8221;<\/i> It&#8217;s only five syllables, but it seems to mask a conga line of condescension. It makes me think Ignatieff assumes his <i>readers<\/i> are dumb, too. But I&#8217;m not dumb&#8211; I predicted the Iraq war would be a disaster. <i>And that means I&#8217;m as smart as a <a href=\"http:\/\/youtube.com\/watch?v=A8skCWAoDAk\" target=\"new\">bus driver.<\/a><\/i><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p class=\"excerpt\">You know who David Rees is.
