{"id":894,"date":"2007-05-13T23:52:06","date_gmt":"2007-05-14T03:52:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.chrismclaren.com\/blog\/2007\/05\/13\/its-about-time-2\/"},"modified":"2007-05-14T22:00:15","modified_gmt":"2007-05-15T02:00:15","slug":"its-about-time-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.chrismclaren.com\/blog\/2007\/05\/13\/its-about-time-2\/","title":{"rendered":"It&#8217;s about time"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Look, I know there&#8217;s no guarantee of them going anywhere&#8211;indeed almost the opposite while W has veto power&#8211;but seeing legislation in both the <a href=\"http:\/\/thomas.loc.gov\/cgi-bin\/query\/z?c110:H.R.2212:\">House<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/thomas.loc.gov\/cgi-bin\/query\/z?c110:S.1249:\">Senate<\/a> to close Guantanamo still makes me happy.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s about time someone stood up and said of Gitmo that it is &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/jurist.law.pitt.edu\/paperchase\/2007\/05\/us-lawmakers-introduce-legislation-to.php\">plainly inconsistent with America&#8217;s proud legal traditions; it has become a stinging symbol of our tarnished standing abroad<\/a>&#8221; .<\/p>\n<p>What would make me even happier would be if someone would stand up and say that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.law.indiana.edu\/uslawdocs\/declaration.html\">&#8220;that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights&#8221;<\/a> means <strong>all men<\/strong> and not just &#8220;all American citizens not specifically excluded by the President&#8221;.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p class=\"excerpt\">Look, I know there&#8217;s no guarantee of them going anywhere&#8211;indeed almost the opposite while W has veto power&#8211;but seeing legislation in both the House and Senate to close Guantanamo still makes me happy.
