{"id":84,"date":"2004-12-10T01:10:03","date_gmt":"2004-12-10T05:10:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.chrismclaren.com\/blog\/archives\/2004\/12\/10\/making-light-of-gerald-allen\/"},"modified":"2004-12-11T23:11:11","modified_gmt":"2004-12-12T03:11:11","slug":"making-light-of-gerald-allen","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.chrismclaren.com\/blog\/2004\/12\/10\/making-light-of-gerald-allen\/","title":{"rendered":"Making Light Of Gerald Allen"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I was getting pretty depressed about the whole <a href=\"http:\/\/www.guardian.co.uk\/arts\/features\/story\/0,11710,1369643,00.html\">Gerald Allen story<\/a> (which I had <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chrismclaren.com\/blog\/2004\/12\/02\/irony-overload\/\">previously commented<\/a> on)  and then I read <a href=\"http:\/\/nielsenhayden.com\/makinglight\/archives\/005904.html\">Teresa Nielsen Hayden&#8217;s take on the piece<\/a>. She skewers him so thoroughly that I felt immensely better. (Later on, of course, when I start wondering why the mass of Americans, and the Administration in particular, doesn&#8217;t see what she sees I&#8217;ll get depressed again, but I&#8217;m happy now.)<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\nThat man is dumber than two bags of hammers on a slow Thursday night. If a lifetime of constant exposure to positive depictions of heterosexuality doesn\u2019t turn children straight, how is it that an occasional depiction of homosexuality is going to turn them gay?<\/p>\n<p>You know what he\u2019s really saying, don\u2019t you? He\u2019s saying that <em>gay sex has straight sex beat all hollow<\/em>, that\u2019s what.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Teresa is a brilliant woman, by the way, and I rarely regret any time I spend reading <a href=\"http:\/\/nielsenhayden.com\/makinglight\/\">Making Light<\/a>. Also, she has been excommunicated, which is enough on its own to make a person a hero in my books.<\/p>\n<p>Oh, and since I&#8217;m name dropping, I once had a lovely midnight lunch at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chiangmaithai.com\/\">Chang Mai<\/a> with her and Neil Gaiman.
