I spent some time today having these conversations with myself:

CHRIS: Do I really want to be the kind of guy who wears Chucks in his thirties?
CHRIS: Morse
CHRIS: Yeah, but it’s really not my style.
CHRIS: Morse
CHRIS: Yeah, but could I pull it off without looking silly?
CHRIS: Have some confidence, man. You can carry off a minor change in style. You have more than enough charisma for that.
CHRIS: Maybe for macho shoes, but these are baby blue shoes with a cartoon tiger on them?
CHRIS: I still think you could do it. In fact the incongruity is something that you could play off of–it’s so far off the expected that there’s a fun angle. Like wearing a Happy Shirt.
CHRIS: Ok, but….

This might have continued for some time, but I then noticed that the shoes only come in sizes up to 11.5. Even with Converse being large for their sizes, there’s no way my canoes are fitting into an 11 and a half. This takes the decision out of my hands, which is probably a good thing–although it might have been fun to show up in Australia wering them, and more of a shock for the lads in the Australian office than Blunnies.

Now I’m just deciding whether or not I want to buy a pair for Sarah to grow into. Having more excuses for things you want but can’t justify is one of the unexpected benefits of parenting.

Normally I’m not a Converse fan.
