You know, it&#8217;s kind of like any other religion. They have their beliefs, and we have to respect that,&#8221; said Gaston Pelletier of the Kativik school board.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Even if you believe that you have to respect the beliefs of others<footnote>I prefer to keep the right to question the merits of the beliefs of others&#8211;I&#8217;ve never bought into the &#8220;I have to respect your opinion, no matter how wrong-headed and baseless it is&#8221; shtick. Incidentally, while I&#8217;m thinking about how much people who think their private notions of offense trump science annoy me, I should point out how happy I am at the idea of their reaction to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thestar.com\/NASApp\/cs\/ContentServer?pagename=thestar\/Layout\/Article_Type1&#038;c=Article&#038;cid=1147989016329&#038;call_pageid=968332188854&#038;col=968350060724\">the discovery<\/a> that not only are we descended from chimps, but we&#8217;re descended from monkey-screwing post-monkeys.<\/footnote>, that doesn&#8217;t mean that you do damage to your child&#8217;s education, or just ignore hundreds of years of science.
