(How can you make a list of all time best shows and not include <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.ca\/exec\/obidos\/redirect?tag=homosum-20%26link_code=xm2%26camp=2025%26creative=165953%26path=http:\/\/www.amazon.ca\/gp\/redirect.html%253fASIN=B00005N5RK%2526tag=homosum-20%2526lcode=xm2%2526cID=2025%2526ccmID=165953%2526location=\/o\/ASIN\/B00005N5RK%25253FSubscriptionId=1D7RNC9A4DZJNRAARVG2\" title=\"View product details at Amazon\">Sandbaggers<\/a>?)<\/p>\n<p>However, we agree on what the all time best television show ever is, which means that Sagan is saying smart things. (Yes, I think that agreeing with me in matters of subjective taste is a sign of raw intelligence. Check out the ego on me.)<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.chrismclaren.com\/blog\/wp-content\/images\/2006\/04\/cracker_1.jpg\" width=\"250\" height=\"187\" alt=\"Fitz\" title=\"Fitz\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/B0000AYJVA\/nicksaganonli-20\/\"><strong>1: <em>Cracker<\/em> (1993-1996)<\/strong><\/a><br \/>\nFirst off, do <u>not<\/u> confuse this amazing U.K. show with the ill-fated U.S. show of the same name.  This is the original <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/B0000AYJVA\/nicksaganonli-20\/\"><i>Cracker<\/i><\/a>, starring <a href=\"http:\/\/imdb.com\/name\/nm0001059\/\">Robbie Coltrane<\/a>.  If you only know <a href=\"http:\/\/imdb.com\/name\/nm0001059\/\">Coltrane<\/a> as <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/cbbcnews\/hi\/find_out\/guides\/showbiz\/potter_actors\/newsid_2381000\/2381639.stm\">Hagrid from the <i>Harry Potter<\/i> films<\/a>, you really haven&#8217;t seen what the man can do.  This is the role that won him three BAFTA awards&#8211;1994, 1995 &amp; 1996&#8211;for best actor in a TV series.  He plays Eddie &#8220;Fitz&#8221; Fitzgerald, expert in criminal behavior.  Fitz cracks cases, punctures alibis and catches criminals&#8211;a well-honed, natural talent, which almost makes up for his vast assortment of character flaws.    <\/p>\n<p>Many shows are centered around detectives profiling violent criminals, getting into the mind of serial killers, rapists, etc.  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/B0000AYJVA\/nicksaganonli-20\/\"><i>Cracker<\/i><\/a> is the show those shows aspire to be.  The cast deserves massive credit, but it&#8217;s the storytelling that&#8217;s off the scale.  <a href=\"http:\/\/imdb.com\/name\/nm0569568\/\">Jimmy McGovern<\/a> is an incredible talent, something of a magician as far as I&#8217;m concerned.    <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p class=\"excerpt\">Over on his blog science fiction writer Nick Sagan (author of fun books Idlewild, Edenborn, and forthcoming Everfree) has a post about his favourite TV shows.
