(Oh, and if you have a problem with “Happy Holidays”, then I have just the site for you.)

Things went pretty well here for Christmas–I just put up a ton of Sarah-based pictures on her blog, so that the family back in Ontario could follow along the first Christmas that Sarah was actually involved in the festivities, so you can check those for a hint of what happened here.

I gave some pretty good gifts this year, and also got some excellent ones, both of which are always good feelings. It’s nice to get the perfect gift, to know someone knows you that well, and also wanted to give you something. It’s even better to feel like you gave the perfect gift.

My favourite story from gifts I gave this year came from my little brother, the professional athlete, who spends every Christmas away in whatever state hosts his team on any given year. I sent him and his wife a few interesting DVDs that I thought they wouldn’t already have, and I also sent along a gigantic box of fudge. The day after the fudge arrived, I got a phone call from my brother, who “had a bone to pick with me” because he had apparently “put a hurtin’ on about 4 pounds of fudge” that night, and now, on the following morning, “they were putting a hurtin’ right back on him”. Snort. I love the idea of my super-fit athletic brother just pigging out on pound after pound of fudge, like a little kid, and then suffering from stomach sickness, just like a little kid–it cracks me up.

I also came up with what I think was a pretty amazing gift for Trish, and I may talk about that later–I’ll have to ask her first if I can blog about it.

Oh, and Trish got me a pretty amazing toy that is both engineer-appropriate, and something that I have wanted but never been able to find. When I assemble it, I’ll take some pictures and post them.

Also, I shall have to post the recipe to Trish’s new Christmas cookies–they’re kind of like pecan shortbread with bourbon, and damn they are good.

Happy Holidays, to you all.
