{"id":2683,"date":"2009-07-08T23:14:14","date_gmt":"2009-07-09T03:14:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.chrismclaren.com\/blog\/?p=2683"},"modified":"2009-07-08T23:15:37","modified_gmt":"2009-07-09T03:15:37","slug":"yes-that-explains-it","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.chrismclaren.com\/blog\/2009\/07\/08\/yes-that-explains-it\/","title":{"rendered":"Yes, that explains it."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>You may recall that we&#8217;ve discussed <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chrismclaren.com\/blog\/2006\/12\/14\/the-drake-equation\/\">the Drake Equation<\/a> here before, and also Nick Bostrom&#8217;s efforts to amend it with what I called a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chrismclaren.com\/blog\/2008\/05\/08\/yes-i-just-made-up-the-term-doom-constant\/\">Doom Constant<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Well it turns out that a very plausible answer to the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Fermi_paradox\">Fermi Paradox<\/a> that doesn&#8217;t involve either post has been suggested by <a href=\"http:\/\/abstrusegoose.com\/163\">a cartoon over at Abstruse Goose<\/a>. I don&#8217;t know that the cartoonist was aware he might be explaining the Paradox, but <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Zoo_hypothesis\">a certain plausible answer<\/a> certainly jumps out when looking at the cartoon.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.chrismclaren.com\/blog\/wp-content\/images\/2009\/07\/electromagnetic_leak.PNG\" rel=\"lightbox\" title=\"They are hiding from us.
