I tip my hat to the students of the University of Chicago, who nicely illustrate the appropriate response to the Westboro Baptist Church<\/a>: mockery<\/a>.<\/p>\n

They were accompanied down the street by a group of students mocking the WBC\u2019s message. The students held a sign reading \u201cFigs Doom Nations\u201d and planted themselves across the street from the WBC, drawing from a Biblical passage in which Jesus disparages a fig tree. \u201cIf you need scanty biblical evidence for anything, we\u2019ve got it,\u201d said fourth-year Carmel Levy as he handed out flyers containing biblical citations that read: \u201cJesus rebuked the fig as an evil abomination\u201d and \u201cGod Promises Terrible Vengeance Upon Any Fig-Loving Nation.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cWe just wanted the world to know that God\u2019s vengeance doesn\u2019t just fall on the gay, but also on the fruit,\u201d said fourth-year Max Shron. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Of course that was just one group of students. There were several other simultaneous mockings going on.<\/p>\n

This one might be my favourite, for obvious reasons:<\/p>\n
