I love this article about teenage slang<\/a> from Wales–I assume that it’s the newspaper writers being behind popular culture, and not in fact true that teen slang in Wales is North American suburb slang from ten years ago:<\/p>\n

Talk to the hand ‘cos the face ain’t listenin’<\/strong> (with palm outstretched like a stop sign) – typical response to any kind of parental reprimand, meaning, “You’re wasting your breath.”\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

No one ever really said the whole thing did they? I mean it was shortened to “talk to the hand” pretty much from the word go, wasn’t it? And, my God, how long ago was that?<\/p>\n

You’re a right homie<\/strong> – You’re a good friend<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Actually, I kind of like this one. The combination of the definitely British Isles usage of ‘right’ with the urban North American ‘homie’ is kind of cute.<\/p>\n

My favourite thing from the article though–mostly because I intend to bother Doug Hern about it until the end of time–was this piece:<\/p>\n

You’re a Doug<\/strong> – You’re a square who is always ready to please your parents and you’re not even remotely interested in anything that smacks of teenage rebellion. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n
