{"id":1820,"date":"2008-11-13T23:06:26","date_gmt":"2008-11-14T03:06:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.chrismclaren.com\/blog\/?p=1820"},"modified":"2008-11-14T00:11:49","modified_gmt":"2008-11-14T04:11:49","slug":"and-so-it-begins","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.chrismclaren.com\/blog\/2008\/11\/13\/and-so-it-begins\/","title":{"rendered":"And so it begins"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So, on the one hand we have <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/canada\/story\/2008\/11\/13\/conservatives-convention.html?ref=rss\">Harper making speeches<\/a> about how this isn&#8217;t the time for Conservatives to be ideological, and how they need to govern &#8220;for all the people&#8221;&#8230;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Conservatives must put ideology aside as they prepare to weather looming economic challenges facing the country, Prime Minister Stephen Harper said Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Harper told Conservatives they must be practical in their approach to the future and heed the concerns of all people, whether they support the Tories or not.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>While at the same time, we have Jim Flaherty revealing the first part of the plan &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/canada\/story\/2008\/11\/13\/flaherty-assets.html?ref=rss\">sell off even more Crown Assets<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The federal government is considering the sale of some of Crown assets as a way of balancing its budget and avoiding a deficit, Canada&#8217;s finance minister said Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking with reporters during the Conservative party&#8217;s policy convention in Winnipeg, Jim Flaherty wasn&#8217;t specific about which assets might be put up for grabs.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Yeah, because privatizing assets that should be held in common has worked out so well in the past. We can just depend on the markets, of course. Isn&#8217;t that the lesson of history?<\/p>\n<p>Ouch.
