Next job I work only in North American time zones&#8211;the global economy can go hang.<\/footnote>, I did get to pick up a couple of more <a href=\"http:\/\/www.centipedepress.com\/\">Centipede Press<\/a> books that I had directed to my US mail drop (a.k.a. &#8220;Matt&#8217;s house&#8221;): a copy of the <a href=\"http:\/\/io9.com\/5019979\/tentacles-and-cosmic-sf-the-art-of-lovecraft\">much talked about<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.centipedepress.com\/hplart.html\">Lovecraft art book<\/a>, which I scored for 50% of retail because I could live with a bumped slipcase, and a copy of their <a href=\"http:\/\/www.centipedepress.com\/blackwoodmwt.html\">Algernon Blackwood collection<\/a>. I may write something more detailed in the future, but <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chrismclaren.com\/blog\/2008\/06\/25\/wednesday-bookish-links\/#centipede\">as with the Gene Wolfe book<\/a>, these are very, very lovely editions, and I will definitely be buying more.<\/li>\n<li>I am excited that <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Matthew_Stover\">Matt Stover<\/a>&#8216;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Caine-Black-Knife-Matthew-Stover\/dp\/0345455878\">new book<\/a><footnote>Yes, I know he has written a lot of novels since the last one I read, but I&#8217;m not reading Star Wars licensed fiction. I&#8217;m just not. Even if Tim Powers and Gene Wolfe collaborated on one. (Well&#8230;)<\/footnote> is coming out. I really quite liked his first two Caine books. And, I&#8217;m intrigued by <a href=\"http:\/\/mattstover.blogspot.com\/2008\/07\/steve-anyone-who-wants-to-read-stories.html\">his description<\/a> of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Daniel_Keys_Moran\">Daniel Keys Moran<\/a>&#8216;s Trent books, which I haven&#8217;t read. Have you? Should I? It looks like most of his stuff is out of print, but <a href=\"http:\/\/immunitysec.com\/resources-dkm.shtml\">available free online<\/a>. I&#8217;ll give it a read, and if I dig it, I see I can get some <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Armageddon-Blues-Limited-Daniel-Moran\/dp\/1576465764\">limited<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Emerald-Eyes-Limited-Daniel-Moran\/dp\/1576465772\">edition<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Long-Limited-Daniel-Keys-Moran\/dp\/1576465780\">hard<\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Last-Dancer-Limited-Daniel-Moran\/dp\/1576465799\">covers<\/a> for the collection. (When I looked at <a href=\"http:\/\/danielkeysmoran.blogspot.com\/\">Moran&#8217;s blog<\/a>, I saw <a href=\"http:\/\/danielkeysmoran.blogspot.com\/2007\/06\/matt-stover-sent-me-new-caine-novel.html\">an entry about Stover&#8217;s new book<\/a>. It both makes me want to read the Stover, and makes me think I should be reading Moran.)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Alison_Bechdel\">Alison Bechdel<\/a>, via <a href=\"http:\/\/www.antipope.org\/charlie\/blog-static\/2008\/07\/bechdels_law.html\">Charlie Stross<\/a>, ensures I will never watch movies quite the same way again<footnote>And thank goodness I don&#8217;t have to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kith.org\/journals\/jed\/2008\/05\/23\/11165.html\">read slush<\/a>.<\/footnote>. This is going to be another one of those things, like the <a href=\"http:\/\/scottwesterfeld.com\/blog\/?p=380\">Missing Black Woman Formation<\/a>, that once it&#8217;s pointed out to you, you will see absolutely everywhere around you, and never fail to notice again, isn&#8217;t it?<\/li>\n<li>And, there&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/bookmooch.com\/languages\">the solution<\/a> to my &#8220;I don&#8217;t need these books any more, but I want them to go to a good home&#8221; problem. Bless you, Internets. That I might actually get some books I want: gravy!<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/literary.erictmarin.com\/current.htm\">Lone Star Stories<\/a> has <a href=\"http:\/\/literary.erictmarin.com\/behold.htm\">a new Hal Duncan piece<\/a>. I&#8217;ll be reading that later tonight.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/crowleycrow.livejournal.com\/93998.html\">Crowley on Disch&#8217;s probable reaction to a mean-spirited obituary<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>I think it was a terrible mistake for the SFBC to lose Andrew Wheeler, but there are some senses in which I am very happy it happened: primarily because it has freed Wheeler to speak his mind, in a &#8220;suffering no fools&#8221; way<footnote>Not that it&#8217;s impossible to do this from inside genre publishing&#8211;you don&#8217;t see PNH suffering any fools!&#8211;but I certainly see a shift toward the outspoken since Wheeler moved out of genre work.<\/footnote>, which often results in posts I can utterly agree with, and be amused by. <a href=\"http:\/\/antickmusings.blogspot.com\/2008\/07\/blog-reviewers-are-being-whiny-again.html\">Like this one<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Yeah, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.empireonline.com\/news\/story.asp?NID=23000\">a movie of Foundation<\/a> will definitely work. Because there&#8217;s nothing Hollywood does better than adapt idea-driven stories with that come with poor characterization and stiff dialogue.
