Left and back, a rack with 2TB of RAID storage, a laser printer, a colour inkjet, a wireless N router (with custom firmware), a cable modem, and around another 1.2TB of JBOD storage.

On your mind: Annual performance review, which will occur in 20 minutes. I’ve already seen the results (it’s a rave) and kind of wish I could skip the formal discussion part.

Last meal included: Chicken Teryaki sub on a cheese/herb bun, Coke Zero

You sometimes find it hard to: actually start items from my to-do list

The weather: was pretty moist this morning, which made the basement quite chill. I am correcting with a pellet stove.

Something you have a collection of: There are too many answers to this, according to my wife. Perhaps the most surprising, but honest, answer would be “tie tacks”.

A smell that cheers you up: Roasting garlic

A smell that can ruin your mood: Any kind of fish/seafood.

How long since you last shaved: I am probably three or four weeks into the beard cycle at the moment

The current state of your hair: Absent. Shaved the remaining bits down to the wood about two weeks ago, so I have bristles now.

The largest item on your desk/workspace (not computer): Ignoring all computer equipment, the next largest single thing is Boppy, my daughter’s toy bunny. Sarah asked me to look after her in my office today because “she’s not feeling well”.

Your skill with chopsticks: Just as dire as my skill at anything else that requires digital dexterity. I can manage due to extensive training from Minneapolitans, but I always prefer the fork.

Which section you head for first in a bookstore: If I’m alone I do a circuit of magazines-remainders-new fiction-SF-Fantasy-Mystery and occasionally teen fiction. I don’t browse much in general fiction unless I’m looking for something specific.

Something you’re craving: The end of the Harper government

Your general thoughts on the (US) presidential race: I’m not expecting much besides symbolism from President Obama, but at this point I’ll take anyone who doesn’t wipe their ass with the constitution.

How many times have you been hospitalized this year: I haven’t been hospitalized in over 25 years. About the closest would be the time I spent a couple of hours at the ER to get stitches when I trimmed my thumb with the cheese slicer.

Favorite place to go for a quiet moment: Honestly? In my car. Driving. I am part of the international oil problem.

You’ve always secretly thought you’d be a good: Independently wealthy philanthropist and small-press publisher. (Note the explicit lack of serial comma.)

Something that freaks you out a little: They might just pick McCain.

Something you’ve eaten too much of lately: Spinach. It’s everywhere.

You have never: been inside a submersed submarine.

You never want to: Do the dishes.
