Keeping Track of Veronica Mars, S2

So, you’re wondering why I’m such a fan of Veronica Mars? I could go into the fabulous writing and acting, the excellent mystery plot, the way each episode of the first season was a subtle homage to certain mystery tropes, etc. However, instead of doing that I will just continue to recommend–as I have been doing for two seasons now–that you just watch the show and decide for yourself. Everyone I’ve made this challenge to, who has actually tried the show, has become a serious fan (with the exception of Neil A. MacFarlane, Esq., who, as we all know, has seriously misaligned life priorities.)

After such a good season 1, I was quite worried that Season 2 would be terrible, especially when I heard that the network had a lot of “notes”. Well, everything that I liked last season seems to be taken up a notch this season, especially the plotting. (And it seems like the notes must have just been “lets have more sex on the show”, since the number of gratuitous sex scenes / references has taken a huge spike from last year–but that’s actually not so bad if it’s the limit of the network meddling.)

The rest of this post is an attempt to summarize the current open questions in the season’s background arc. Bear in mind that this is like 8 episodes into the season, and that most of this stuff is subtext, and in the few cases where it’s explicit, it’s in the B-story. Each episode also has the “wrapped in an hour” A-plot as well.

This list is shamelessly lifted from a list prepared by Dan Evans III, who is one of my pop cultural gurus.
