I tried a few things and here’s what I discovered: I see the formatting when I’m logged in. When i log out, I do not see the special formatting.

Gideon, I just popped over to your blog, and don’t see the issue you report. Did you fix it?

Assuming you’re using one of the stock “recent posts” widgets, there’s no reason that should happen. If your theme does it “by hand” I guess it’s possible that something wonky is happening, but since I can’t see it in action, it’s hard for me to offer any useful suggestions.

Gimini, I’m not sure what symptom you’re reporting. If I go to a Category page on my site–say the one for ‘Books’–I only see the asides once, and appearing as asides. Is this not what you see?

Um, just a small problem: the post tagged as an aside shows up in the sidebar under “recent posts” with the same formatting that it does in the main column. You can see it in action on my blog. Any reason why this might be so and any way to fix it?

In category pages posts show up twice – both as asides and as regular posts. I have Parse templates on archive view pages disabled. Ideas?

Hallelujah! A ton of thanks. This works perfectly. I had to resort to hard-coding in the asides when WP 2.8 broke Asideshop but the bullet-point style looked ugly. Now it is perfect. Hope we can count on you if WP breaks it again

Life saver dude! I made the more conservative changes and now it seems to be working great. I just hope a future update of WordPress won’t break it again, as the original developer seems to have completely abandoned the plugin now.
