Based on your enjoyment of the Wild Cards stuff I can see how The Edge of Reason would be disappointing. In hindsight I could have been a bit more critical than I was, other than a vague mention of "Old Ones" I was thoroughly disappointed by the lack of Lovecraftian elements in the novel; which was my main reason for picking up the novel. It certainly lacks the sense of play and fun that the Wild Cards stories had, and in truth it takes itself a bit too seriously.
