In hindsight I could have been a bit more critical than I was, other than a vague mention of "Old Ones" I was thoroughly disappointed by the lack of Lovecraftian elements in the novel; which was my main reason for picking up the novel. It certainly lacks the sense of play and fun that the <em>Wild Cards</em> stories had, and in truth it takes itself a bit too seriously.
