For six years the supposedly liberal have been afraid to speak out (except Feingold), presumably because they felt that the American public would react badly. These people are essentially spineless weathervanes, and the fact that they are starting to speak up now means they are recognizing that the wind of American public opinion has changed direction. I'll take any sign of that as a positive, even if the politicos are very conservative about embracing their liberalism.

But yes, on the other hand. the rise of the born agains, evangelicals, and other creationist nutjubs does give me fear. Specifically it's fear that we'll go through this all again in 20 years, except instead of post-Wolfowitz neocons it'll be graduates of Oral Roberts University.

I wish. It's going to be at least another 25 years. All those creationist freaks have to finish raising their children first.

Back when I was a tyke and the lefties were the ones pushing the envelope, it seemed that the righties would have an occasional small victory, and with much fanfare announce that they were taking back the country from the godless decadent heathens. It wasn't any more true then.
